Performance Engineer

Posted Updated
Discussion

We are seeking a Performance Engineer to support the design and delivery of the performance engineering approach across our applications and supporting services. Within this role, you will verify Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs), covering response time, throughput, scalability, stability, and resource utilization.

The engineer will partner closely with development, DevSecOps, architecture, and product teams to detect performance risks early, create automated performance testing capabilities, examine system behavior under realistic workloads, and confirm applications meet agreed performance and scalability targets prior to production release.

Responsibilities

  • Shape the performance testing and performance engineering strategy driven by application architecture, business usage patterns, and NFRs
  • Translate business and technical NFRs into measurable performance acceptance criteria, test scenarios, workload models, and success thresholds
  • Run load, stress, spike, endurance/soak, scalability, and capacity tests across web applications, APIs, and backend services
  • Create and maintain automated performance test scripts leveraging existing performance testing frameworks
  • Evaluate the performance of HTTP/REST and gRPC-based APIs and services
  • Design workload models driven by expected user volumes, concurrency, transaction patterns, and production-like behavior
  • Examine performance across the application stack, covering frontend, APIs, services, databases, caching layers, infrastructure, and third-party dependencies
  • Detect performance bottlenecks and take part in root-cause analysis leveraging application, infrastructure, database, and observability data
  • Verify application behavior under normal, peak, and sustained workloads
  • Track key performance indicators such as response time, latency, throughput, error rate, concurrency, CPU, memory, network utilization, and database performance
  • Embed performance tests into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous performance validation and catch regressions early
  • Define performance baselines and monitor performance trends across releases
  • Partner with software engineers and DevSecOps teams to confirm performance optimizations
  • Deliver clear performance test reports, flag risks, and communicate whether agreed NFRs and release criteria have been met
  • Assist capacity planning activities for application and AWS infrastructure scalability

Requirements

  • 2+ years of performance testing/performance engineering background with web applications and distributed systems
  • Hands-on expertise in performance testing tools such as k6, JMeter, or Gatling
  • Familiarity with Locust or comparable load testing tools
  • Solid understanding of load, stress, and spike testing
  • Working knowledge of endurance/soak, scalability, and capacity testing
  • Intermediate English proficiency (B1+ level)

Benefits

  • International projects with top brands
  • Work with global teams of highly skilled, diverse peers
  • Healthcare benefits
  • Employee financial programs
  • Paid time off and sick leave
  • Upskilling, reskilling and certification courses
  • Unlimited access to the LinkedIn Learning library and 22,000+ courses
  • Global career opportunities
  • Volunteer and community involvement opportunities
  • EPAM Employee Groups
  • Award-winning culture recognized by Glassdoor, Newsweek and LinkedIn
