Prototype Developer (Contract, Part-Time)
Compensation: $32k – $57k • No equity
ORFF Maestra LLC is an Oakland-based education technology company building an assessment reasoning and training platform for school-based speech-language pathologists. The platform implements TTL-MSM, a decision framework for the disorder-versus-difference determination in school eligibility evaluations. We are preparing a U.S. Department of Education SBIR Phase IA proposal, with a university research lead at Baylor University.
The role: build the first working prototype of a browser-based platform from a detailed written specification. Before submission, review the spec and estimate the build (scope, timeline, cost), about 10 to 15 hours, unpaid. If funded, build the prototype over a nine-month Phase IA project at about 15 to 20 hours a week, with privacy and security designed in from the start so the product is ready for FERPA-protected student data later.
You bring: full-stack web development with at least one shipped application; experience building for protected data (FERPA, HIPAA, or similar); delivering a fixed scope on a fixed timeline; and building from a written spec for non-engineer clients. Ed tech or health tech experience is a plus.
Compensation: $70 to $95 per hour, contingent on award. Roughly 450 to 600 hours over nine months. Remote, U.S. only (U.S. citizen or permanent resident).
