Senior Software Engineer (Core Product)

• As a Senior Software Engineer on the Core Product team, you’ll build the products small business owners rely on every single day: Scheduling, HR Management (HRM), and Payroll. This is where a shift becomes a timecard, becomes a paycheck, and where getting it right really matters
• You ship fast, own what you ship, and make the people around you better. You’ll work alongside Product, Design, and Data, and you’ll build the AI-first way. As an E3, you’ll lead projects end to end and grow your impact across the team
• Design, build, and launch features across Scheduling, HRM, and Payroll, and stay with them in production
• Deliver reliable, testable, maintainable code where accuracy matters, from hours worked to dollars paid
• Solve problems where Scheduling, Time Tracking, HRM, and Payroll meet, and make those seams invisible to customers
• Stay close to the small business owners and workers who use what you build, and fix what hurts them first
• Use AI and agentic tools daily across design, code, tests, and reviews, and share the workflows that work
• Give sharp code reviews, advance Homebase engineering standards, and mentor the engineers around you
• Work with PMs, Designers, and Data to shape what we build and how fast we learn
• Lead the implementation of components and services, own estimates and delivery, and bring junior engineers along

• Experience with payroll, scheduling, workforce management, or similarly complex business domains is a plus
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and a record of shipping production software that customers depend on
• Owns estimation, execution, and iterative improvement
• Know when AI creates real leverage and when it adds noise, and keep human judgment on every change you ship
• Share the AI workflows that work with your team and help others try them
• Ideal candidate brings a strong background in Ruby on Rails
• Active AI fluency: you use AI tools daily to improve your own work and can show the impact
• Craft you can show: clean design, solid tests, and thoughtful trade-offs
• Retool your own workflows with AI to raise velocity and quality, and measure the impact
• Comfort working in a high-velocity environment where shipping fast and iterating matters
