Staff Research Engineer – Frontier AI, RL & Evaluation

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 7+ years of professional experience, including significant research-engineering work on machine learning or frontier AI systems, is mandatory. Applications that do not clearly show this on the resume will be automatically rejected.
EDUCATION: A PhD or Master’s degree in AI, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a closely related field is required; exceptional equivalent research experience may be considered.
We are hiring a Staff Research Engineer – Frontier AI, RL & Evaluation for a remote three-month contractor assignment.
What you will do
- Formulate research questions and design rigorous experiments for frontier AI systems.
- Build research-grade prototypes, evaluation tooling, and scalable applications.
- Train and evaluate models and translate technical findings into product and platform improvements.
- Collaborate with research, engineering, product, and operations teams.
Requirements
- 7+ years of directly relevant professional experience.
- Strong Python skills and experience with modern ML frameworks and tooling.
- Demonstrated research experience in machine learning, reinforcement learning, evaluation, or frontier AI.
- Ability to work independently and provide technical leadership and mentorship.
Engagement and compensation
- Contractor role for approximately three months.
- Minimum 40 hours per week, including at least 4 hours overlap with PST.
- US rate: $75 per hour. Non-US rate: $35 per hour.
- Selection includes an AI interview and delivery review/interview.
