Founding Account Executive (B2B SaaS)
Company: Relay Software Location: Remote – United States Position: Contract / Commission-Based Initially Compensation: Commission + Long-Term Equity Opportunity + Potential Salaried Position
About Us:
We're an early-stage software company building a portfolio of B2B software products designed to help businesses operate more efficiently, improve accountability, and solve everyday operational challenges. Relay is our first product, an operational coordination platform initially focused on manufacturing and other frontline-intensive businesses. Relay helps employees report operational issues, ensures responsibility is assigned, and gives management visibility into problems from initial reporting through resolution. Our goal is to prevent operational problems from falling through the cracks.
Relay is the starting point of our broader vision. Over time, we intend to develop additional software products serving different operational needs and industries, creating new markets, customers, and sales opportunities for our commercial team. Our initial product is built, our target market is defined, and our go-to-market direction is established. We're now focused on acquiring our first customers and building a sustainable sales operation.
The Opportunity:
We're looking for a Founding Account Executive to help establish our initial customer base, beginning with Relay. This is a hands-on sales position. Your primary responsibility will be identifying prospective customers, generating opportunities, demonstrating our software, and closing business. We're not looking for someone to spend months developing a go-to-market strategy. We've already established our initial direction and need someone who can execute.
You'll work directly with the founder and have considerable independence in how you approach prospecting, customer relationships, and closing opportunities. As the company grows and introduces additional products, successful salespeople will have opportunities to sell across our expanding software portfolio. We're equally interested in someone who wants to remain a high-performing individual contributor and someone who may eventually want to build and lead a sales team. Management ambitions are not a requirement.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and prospect potential customers, initially focusing on small and midsize U.S. manufacturing businesses.
- Reach plant managers, operations managers, business owners, and other relevant decision-makers.
- Generate opportunities through outbound email, LinkedIn, phone outreach, networking, and other channels.
- Qualify prospects, conduct product demonstrations, and manage opportunities through closing.
- Build and maintain a healthy sales pipeline using our CRM.
- Develop relationships with prospective customers and identify their operational challenges.
- Work directly with the founder to improve sales messaging and refine our existing sales process.
- Gather market feedback that can inform future product development.
- As additional software products are introduced, potentially expand into selling those solutions.
What We're Looking For:
- Experience in B2B sales, business development, or account executive positions.
- Demonstrated ability to independently prospect, develop opportunities, and close customers.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and follow-up skills.
- Comfortable working independently in an early-stage environment.
- Self-motivated, organized, and focused on producing measurable results.
- Willingness to learn software products and understand the operational challenges of prospective customers.
- Interest in building a long-term relationship with a growing software company.
Preferred, but not required:
- Experience selling B2B SaaS or business software.
- Familiarity with manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, or industrial operations.
- Existing relationships with business owners or operations decision-makers.
- Experience developing a customer base for an early-stage company.
Compensation, Equity & Career Growth:
This opportunity is initially structured as a commission-based contract position, with the potential to transition into a salaried role with performance-based incentives as company revenue supports it.
Because we're at an early stage, we're particularly interested in people who recognize the long-term opportunity of helping establish a growing software business.
Long-Term Equity Opportunity:
We intend to make equity participation available to select early team members who demonstrate strong performance, contribute meaningfully to the company's growth, and commit to building with us over the long term. Equity would be subject to a separate agreement and vesting requirements. It is not automatically granted upon joining.
Our goal is to reward individuals who help build lasting value, not simply those who join early.
Future Opportunities:
- As our software portfolio expands, successful team members may have opportunities to:
- Transition into salaried sales positions with commission incentives.
- Sell additional software products as they're developed and launched.
- Become senior account executives or specialized sales professionals.
- Take on responsibility for larger accounts or new markets.
- Move into sales leadership and eventually help build a larger commercial organization, if interested and qualified.
- Participate in the company's long-term growth through potential equity ownership.
You don't need to become a manager to have a successful career here. We value people who consistently generate business just as much as those who want to lead teams.
Why Join Us?
- Get in early. Help establish the first customers and commercial foundation of an emerging software company.
- Sell a real product. Relay is already built, and we're moving into customer acquisition rather than selling an undeveloped concept.
- Multiple future products. Relay is our starting point, not our entire long-term vision. Our expanding software portfolio is intended to create additional sales opportunities over time.
- Direct founder access. Work directly with the founder without layers of corporate management.
- Long-term ownership potential. High-performing team members who stay and help build the business may qualify for equity participation.
- Choose your career path. Grow as an individual salesperson or pursue leadership opportunities as the organization expands.
