Founding Product Engineer — AI SaaS — Part-Time / Equity
Compensation: 1.0% – 2.0%
I’m looking for a Founding Engineer to join Eko at an early stage.
Eko is an AI workspace designed to help people improve important workplace communication before they share it — things like PRDs, leadership updates, announcements, performance reviews and executive communication.
The product is already being built and has a strong technical foundation. I’m now looking for an engineer who wants to take meaningful ownership of the product alongside me and help shape where it goes next.
This is not a co-founder role.
It is an equity-only position initially, designed for someone who already has a full-time job, is finishing university, or simply wants to build something ambitious on the side. I expect the commitment to be around 8–12 hours per week, on a best-effort basis.
If Eko gains meaningful traction or funding, the intention would be to turn this into a paid role with the opportunity to increase your involvement significantly.
What I’m looking for
You don’t need 10+ years of experience.
I’m more interested in someone who is:
- A strong full-stack engineer, particularly with TypeScript
- Comfortable building and shipping products independently
- Already experimenting with AI, LLMs, agents or AI-assisted development
- Product-minded rather than just focused on implementation
- Comfortable working in an early-stage environment where things move quickly
- Excited about having genuine ownership rather than simply completing tickets
- Someone who builds things outside of work — side projects, open source, hackathons, small SaaS products, experiments, etc.
You might be an exceptional graduate, an engineer a few years into your career, or someone more experienced who wants to build a startup alongside their current role.
The stack
Eko is built primarily with:
- SvelteKit / TypeScript
- Cloudflare Workers, D1, R2, Queues and Durable Objects
- LLM APIs and AI routing
- Modern AI-assisted development workflows
Experience with this exact stack isn’t required. Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to learn quickly matter more.
What you’ll work on
You’ll have the opportunity to work across the entire product, including:
- AI-powered communication workflows
- LLM orchestration and model routing
- Memory and retrieval
- Collaborative product experiences
- Product analytics and experimentation
- Performance and scalability
- New product capabilities from idea through to production
This isn’t a role where you’ll be handed a backlog and asked to work through tickets.
I’m looking for someone who wants to understand the problem, challenge ideas, propose solutions and help build the product.
How we’ll work
The role is remote and asynchronous.
UK-based candidates are particularly attractive because of timezone overlap, although I’m open to people elsewhere if there is reasonable overlap with UK working hours.
I’d expect roughly 8–12 hours per week initially. That could mean evenings, weekends, or whatever fits around your existing commitments.
There will be no expectation that Eko takes priority over your existing job or studies at this stage.
Equity
This is an equity-only role initially.
The amount of equity will depend on experience, contribution and expected involvement, and will vest over time.
The aim is for the person joining to have meaningful ownership in what they help create, rather than receiving token equity.
About me
I’m currently a Head of Engineering and have spent my career building engineering organisations, platforms and products.
With Eko, I’m looking for someone who complements that experience with strong hands-on product engineering and who enjoys turning ideas into working software quickly.
I’m not looking for a co-founder. I’m looking for the first engineer to join me in building Eko.
Interested?
Send me:
- A short introduction
- Your LinkedIn or CV
- Your GitHub, portfolio or anything you’ve built
- A project you’re particularly proud of
- Why building something like Eko on the side appeals to you
You do not need a perfectly polished CV.
If you’re someone who spends evenings building things because you genuinely enjoy creating products, I’d particularly like to hear from you.
